Betrayal

Of dashed hopes and despair
Misery sprinkled, here and there
Of times, when we used to endear
Vacant, lonely eyes, no trace of a tear
Of a world, apathetic and unfair
Each pleading look met with a glare
Of insecurity and, a persistent fear
When unsolicited sounds, must we hear
Of anguish and suffering in silence
Unaware of the bubbling incense
Of insensitivity to love intense
Nurtured on a farcical pretense
Of self-efficacy at others’ expense
Trying, to one’s limit of forbearance
Of a far, abating cry from a distance
Averted, unheard in disdain immense

Of forlorn desires kept within
Of despondency and chagrin
Of pain camouflaged by a grin
Of pleasures derived from a sin
Of a greater loss with every win
Of quietude lost in the din
Of absence of a will to begin
Of hidden agony in the eyes twin

A grave dug and buried faith
Credible as the roaming wraith
Exhumed to be buried again
Betrayal alone shall sustain
