A Journey Retraced

“Seek thy gold not in a mine
For thou art gold, mine
Shall we be rich estranged
Or poor with love old as wine”

A journey lonesome
Accompanied
By aspirations some
Some desires buried

Aiming for the clouds
The ground left behind
Amongst cheers and shouts
To a silent prayer, turned blind

The apex beckoning
Alluring to the appetite
That look imploring
Following the pace of his feet

Chasing the unknown
In quest of accolades
Stranded at the pinnacle alone
A witness, as the fame fades

Turning around
Towards the abode
Incapable of hearing a sound
From where, away he strode

Nostalgic, repentant
As realization dawned
In a frenzy, the whole life spent
And passed beyond

A walk back to the roots
An odyssey humbling
After onerous pursuits
Quenched thirst and pining

Emerging from admiration mock
Dejected, heartbroken
A tardy walk
On a path long forgotten

Hoping for a beginning new
Of mirth and sorrow
Revival of a dream to pursue
Today and tomorrow
